Amy's Artist Statement
As a nursing student and collegiate athlete, I rarely have time for artistic activities. However, this winter I had the opportunity to take Photography and have made extra time in my busy schedule to take more photos. My black and white photos are slightly different from my classmates' because I used an Olympus Stylus point and shoot camera. This camera was unique because I did not have to manually adjust the settings, compared to the other film cameras that were being used. My photos feature a large depth of field, with the focus of the picture in the center.
All but one of my black and white photos came from my home in Newburyport, MA. This small coast-guard city is famous for its historic downtown and the many beaches along the coast. I love the city I grew up in and wanted to capture memories of the place where I have lived all of my life.
My digital photos came from a school trip I took to Greece and Turkey in the spring of 2015. We traveled all around Greece and Turkey, visiting different historic archaeology sites. I wanted to take as many photos as I could to remember these countries and the memories that I had made along the way. Looking at my photos, there is a lot of thought that goes behind taking an image and often will have a personal connection to the artist behind the camera.
